Facial Plastic Surgery Procedures Overview
This is a overview of the procedures performed at the Northwest
Head and Neck Surgery Clinic.
Eyes:
Blepharoplasty
(eyelid surgery or eyelift) - A treatment for the
"tired eyes" look. Blepharoplasty addresses the hooded upper
eyelids or sagging lower eyelids, puffy or baggy eyes. For
individuals in their 30's, 40's and 50's these problems are
not unusual. Eye rejuvenation such as blepharoplasty can
correct these problems. Blepharoplasty works on the upper
and lower eyelids to eliminate excess fat, muscle and skin.
Dr. David Q. Santos has perfected blepharoplasty procedures
over years of experience. Is blepharoplasty best for you? It
takes as qualified facial plastic surgeon such as Dr. Santos
to help make the right decision.
Botox
(r) - Botox(r) is a "quick fix" to reduce unwanted wrinkles.
In addition, Botox(r) provides the sought-after effects of wrinkle
reducing procedures, without the risk of surgery. This safe
and simple wrinkle reduction therapy via Botox(r) injections has
become extremely successful and exciting. Botox(r). Botox injections do not make a permanent improvement but offer a
prolonged modest improvement of in the war against wrinkles. As a doubled board certified Facial Plastic/Head and Neck Surgeon,
Dr. Santos is dedicated to applying the state of the art techniques
at his Renton clinics to make sure your Botox experience is pleasing
and rewarding.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
– The Endoscopic brow lift elevates the
descended eyebrow, reduces the fullness of the upper eyelid, reduces
the horizontal lines of the forehead and diminishes the worry lines
between the eyes. The ultimate result of a brow lift is youthfulness
and significant elimination of the "fatigued" and "worried" appearance.
Face:
Facelift
(rhytidectomy): Aging of the face is unavoidable and it
occurs to all of us. If wanting to feel more youthful and
energetic than your face portrays is your goal, a
rhytidectomy or facelift, as it is commonly called, is a
superior choice. With an extremely high success rate, the
facelift has become the most desirable and one of the most
commonly performed cosmetic procedures. A facelift treats
the neck, cheek, jowl, lateral temporal and eyebrow areas.
Chemical Peel:
What is a chemical peel? A chemical peel is the application
of one or a combination of several chemical-exfoliating
agents that cause a subsequent shedding of the superficial
portions of the skin. In return, this chemical peel causes
new skin to be regenerated. With different degrees of
chemical peels, it’s important to communicate clearly with
your plastic surgeon your goals for the desired outcome in
order to achieve optimum results.
Laser Skin Resurfacing:
Laser Skin Resurfacing reduces wrinkles on the face and
reduces the little facial “lumps and bumps”. Laser
resurfacing can also remove or reduce enlarging moles as
well as enhance pigment uniformity. Because the laser is a
very precise instrument, a laser surgeon such as Dr. Santos
with a great deal of experience and knowledge is needed to
achieve desired results.
Restylane: Restylane is one of the first
"new frontier" soft tissue fillers. Recently FDA-approved
Restylane is a natural and long-lasting solution for individuals
looking to enhance their youthfulness and remove unwanted wrinkles. Restylane is an injectable dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid,
(which is a natural substance already found in the human body) making
it safe and completely biodegradable with no risk of allergic reaction. How long does Restylane last? Restylane will last six months
or even longer, but the results are noted immediately after injection
with no recovery time needed.
Scar Revision:
Living with facial scars can be quite
traumatic and disheartening. Thousands of individuals in the
US each year undergo the surgical treatment known as scar revision,
to improve the appearance of facial and body scarring. Scar revision
techniques are quite involved and they include multi-layer closure
techniques of the wound to diminish the pressure on the wound site
while it heals. A skilled facial plastic surgeon can utilize
experience to help to minimize and camouflage scars.
Otoplasty: The
"lop ear deformity" is a congenital problem that effects the
outer ear. This deformity causes the ears to protrude and
contributes the "ears sticking out" phenomena. Otoplasty is
the procedure that ultimately corrects this problem.
Otoplasty involves reshaping, remodeling, and reforming the
outer ear, to correct the protruding ears. When should
Otoplasty be performed? Preferably, otoplasty should be
performed on children before the first grade. For adults,
otoplasty is done to achieve a more pleasing aesthetic look.
Nose:
Rhinoplasty: (nasal surgery or nose surgery) – The goal of rhinoplasty
is to reconstruct, reshape the outermost portion of the nose marked
by malposition, deformity or deficiency. Thousands of
individuals in the United States undergo rhinoplasty each
year to modify the appearance of their nose. Rhinoplasty is
a significantly satisfactory procedure that helps
individuals achieve greater self-esteem and personal
satisfaction. Nasal surgery (rhinoplasty) is probably the
most common procedure that facial plastic surgeons perform
today.
Septoplasty: Septoplasty is a procedure to improve nasal breathing. The importance of consistent nasal breathing often is more apparent
for those who have had successful nasal corrective septoplasty. Nasal airway obstruction is a common problem throughout the United
States. A simple evaluation by an experienced otolaryngologist
such as Dr. Santos is generally adequate to obtain specific
cause of the nasal obstruction. Most structural
abnormalities can be remedied with medical interventions
such as septoplasty.
Chronic Sinusitis: Chronic sinusitis is a disease of the sinuses
when sinus symptoms are presented for greater than six to eight
weeks. There are many underlying factors that predispose
one to chronic sinusitis, including nasal obstruction, allergies,
fungal infections, deviated septum, nasal polyposis, etc.
Treatment goals of chronic and acute sinusitis are to
improve the symptoms that adversely affect the quality of
life.
Endoscopic Sinus Surgery:
Endoscopic
sinus surgery general provides very reasonable success for most
individuals with chronic sinusitis resulting in significant improvement
of the underlying chronic sinus disease process.
Forehead:
Endoscopic
Forehead Lift: An endoscopic forehead lift will reverse
the first signs of aging that usually happen in the regions around
the eyes and forehead. The typical signs of aging of the upper
forehead that render the fatigued look are: development of prominent
horizontal forehead creases, prominent glabellar furrow, droopy
eyebrows, and droopy upper eyelids. Many times all four of
these characteristics will develop over time. The endoscopic
forehead lift elevates the descended eyebrow, reduces the fullness
of the upper eyelid, reduces the horizontal lines of the forehead
and diminishes the worry lines between the eyes.
Botox
(r): Botox is a "quick fix" to reduce unwanted
wrinkles. In addition, Botox provides the sought-after
effects of wrinkle reducing procedures, without the risks of
surgery. This safe and simple wrinkle reduction therapy via
Botox injections has become extremely successful and
exciting. Botox injections do not make a permanent
improvement, but offer a prolonged modest improvement on the
war against wrinkles. As a double board certified Facial
Plastic and Head and Neck Surgeon, Dr. Santos is dedicated
to applying state of the art techniques and technologies to
make sure your Botox experience is pleasing, and rewarding.
Lip:
Lip
augmentation: Many patients desire to improve
the wrinkling in and around the lips or resolve the
unattractive or asymmetric appearance of their lips wile
others simply desire a more “pouty” and voluptuous
appearance. Whatever your specific desires, lip enhancement
or lip augmentation assists in restoring the youthfulness of
the lips and provides significant improvement in overall
facial attractiveness. Both surgical and non-surgical lip
augmentation options are available.
Restylane: Restylane is one of the first “new frontiers” of soft
tissue fillers. Recently FDA-approved, Restylane is a natural and
long-lasting solution for individuals looking to enhance their youthfulness,
remove unwanted wrinkles, and add volume to your lips. Restylane
is an injectable dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid, (which
is a natural substance already found in the human body), making it safe and
completely biodegradable with no risk of allergic reaction. How long
does Restylane last? Restylane will last six months or even longer, but
the results are noted immediately after injection with no recovery time needed.
Neck:
Face
and Neck Liposuction: Facial and neck
liposuction is effective for removing localized fatty
deposits in the under surface of the neck area and the lower
neck region. It is also effective in the cheek region and in
front of the ears, as this area is often times more plump
than it should be. Liposuction is most effective in removing
fatty deposits in the areas that generally do not respond to
diet and exercise. Many individuals who look at old
photographs of themselves and see a much more thin face can
simply benefit from face and neck liposuction.
Necklift: What is a
necklift? A neck lift is a cosmetic procedure that
specifically addresses the neck and under surface of the
chin. One of the more common problems that develop in this
area over time is the so-called “turkey gobbler deformity”.
This is when the skin becomes extremely lax and flaccid.
This deformity is unsightly and can be nicely addressed with
the neck lift. Often times only the neck is of concern and
individuals simply want this area treated and not the entire
face. This is where a neck lift can be of benefit.
Chin:
Mentoplasty:
Mentoplasty, (chin surgery or chin
implant) is a term used to describe the restructuring and reformation
of the “mentum” region of the face. By sculpting the chin
through mentoplast, a more aesthetically pleasing profile can be
achieved. There are a number of chin implants that achieve
adequate chin recapturing. Gortex and silicone are the
most common of the chin implants.
